Gulf
Credit Card
Gulf credit card is a consumer gas card from Gulf Oil.
It is a Gulf Platinum MasterCard issued and managed by Barclays Bank, Delaware. The Gulf credit
card is accepted at all 1,800 Gulf gas and service stations, as well as is over 20 million stores and ATMs
worldwide.
The Gulf credit card offers gas rebates of up to 3% when purchases are made at participating Gulf stations and 1%
on other purchases. This rebate is only open to cardholders with active and current credit card accounts. Rebates
from the Gulf credit card have no caps or limitations and are automatically included in the cardholder’s billing
statement. Every time the accumulated points reach at least $20 worth of rebates, Gulf will automatically send a
gift card to the cardholder. Rebates, however, are not transferrable and unredeemed points will expire after 2
years.
The Gulf credit card also offers competitive rates on purchases and balance transfers. An introductory promo of 0%
APR on balance transfers is given during the first six months after opening the account. Purchases, on the other
hand, are given an APR of 13.74% or 17.74% depending on the cardholder’s creditworthiness. After the six-month
period, the APR for balance transfers will revert back to the 13.74% or 17.74%. Cash advances also get an APR of
21.99%. In the instance, however, that a Gulf credit card holder goes over the limit, misses a due date, or has
his/her payment returned, a penalty APR of 30.24% will be applied. Gulf also gives 23 days grace period to
cardholders who pay their bills in full and on time.
The Gulf credit card does not charge an annual fee or an over-the-limit fee. It does, however take a minimum
interest charge of $2 every billing cycle, and a late payment or returned payment fee of $39.95.
The Gulf credit card also charges a foreign currency transaction fee of 4% of the amount (in US dollars) per
transaction. When the balance transfer feature is used, a transaction fee of $10 or 4% of the amount is also
imposed. For the first six months after the account is opened, the balance transfer fee is 3% of the amount or a
minimum of $5 and a maximum of $50. After this period, the ceiling amount for balance transfers is removed. Cash
advances are also charged with a 3% or $10 transaction fee (whichever is greater). Cash advances, however, are not
limited to ATM withdrawals. The feature also includes the use of traveler’s check, money order, wire transfer,
gambling chips, or lottery ticket using the Gulf credit card.
A FICO score of 683 or at least a fair credit rating is needed for higher chances of approval for the Gulf
credit card.
