UNCLE
Credit Union
UNCLE Credit Union offers the benefits of credit union membership to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends
school in the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, San Joaquin and Stanislaus.
There are four UNCLE Credit Union locations in Pleasanton, Livermore (2 locations) and Tracy plus
four UNCLE ATM-only locations, and thousands of other ATMs through the CO-OP Network. UNCLE was established in 1957
and is a full service financial institution with a not-for-profit aim, operating as a cooperative for their
members. UNCLE Credit Union home banking services cover checking accounts for all, over 60’s and youth checking for
over 16’s.
All these accounts have no monthly charge, free monthly statements, whether email statements or by mail, free bill
paying, free online banking, no charge per check and unlimited free check writing. They also include Audio Response
Teller which is a telephone service allowing you to check your balance and make transfers between accounts. The
only thing you pay for is your check book, and that is free for the over 60’s.
The standard account is called Share Checking, but eligibility for this account is still subject to e funds and
Experian verification, so poor credit may mean you cannot access this service. UNCLE Credit Union offers a Visa
credit card with interest rates currently at 12.99%APR but again this is subject to credit checking. They also
offer an auto loan on both new and old cars with rates as low as 3.99% APR and 90 days no payment. They can also
offer a refinancing deal to bring down the payments on your current auto loan. The 3.99% rate applies to cars with
a license plate after 2002 and is for a four year loan. The deferred payment is only for new member auto loan
applications.
However UNCLE pledge to offer their members Lifetime Solutions and have teamed up with BALANCE a financial
education service, who offer credit counselling and debt management plans. There is a dedicated finance officer at
their main branch whose job is to assist UNCLE members who are experiencing financial hardship. They also have a
link on the UNCLE website to Debt in Focus which is a free and anonymous advice service that allows you to find out
how much debt you are in and what you can do about it. UNCLE Credit Union pledges to help their members to
repair and rebuild their credit, but if applying for any of their home banking services it would be best to consult
with BALANCE first, and be totally honest about your credit situation. Using financial counselling is free; you
have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
