Fitzsimmons
Credit Union
Overview and Eligibility
Fitzsimmons Credit Union started as Fitzsimons Army Hospital (FAH) Federal Credit Union in 1955
and over the years has expanded its membership as times have changed. They see their members as partners, so after
a number of changes they finally became Fitzsimons, a Partnering Credit Union in 2009 with a community charter.
Today they have over 14,000 members and total assets of over $150 million. In order to become a partner the
criteria are as follows; be active or retired military, work, live, attend school or worship in Aurora, Bennett,
Strasburg, Eastern Centennial or Watkins or work for one of their select employer groups. In addition, family
members of those who meet these criteria are also eligible for membership. The minimum opening deposit is $25, and
there is a one-time share fee of $5 for membership.
Home Banking and Checking
You can sign up for an account online at Fitzsimons Credit Union (FCU), and they are currently running a
competition to win a backyard makeover if you use their pay bills online facility, so they are encouraging their
members to use their online home banking services. On their home page, they have a link to an online debt
assessment tool; this allows customers to anonymously assess their financial position, and then offers advice as to
how to improve their financial situation. The checking accounts that FCU offers starts with their basic, no minimum
balance, online account, with Visa debit card, E Checking. Then there is their Premium interest earning account
Partner Paramount Checking which earns dividends, has a $6 monthly membership fee, but no minimum balance. All
checking accounts have a rewards debit card, so all customers can earn points to spend on retail products. The
Fitzsimons Visa Debit Card works on the CO-OP Network giving access to over 30,000 surcharge-FREE ATMs.
Credit cards and Loans
Elan Financial Services is the creditor, issuer and service provider of the Visa Credit Card for Fitzsimons
Credit Union. The cards available are the Signature, Platinum, College Rewards, Young Adult and Secured Visa
card. The Young Adult and Secured credit cards are aimed at those customers needing to either build up a credit
history or to repair a bad credit record. They allow the user to secure their credit separately with a share
account, and establish a better credit history whilst not overspending. One of their special loans is the Partners
Instant Cash (PIC) loan, which aims to offer a better alternative to payday loans, available with a flat $20
application fee and an interest rate of 28% APR on loan amounts between $200 and $1000.
