AOPA
Credit Card
As a non-profit organization, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association’s (AOPA) mission is to keep aviation safe,
affordable, and fun.
For its members, it offers a range of products and services including insurance, financial, medical, and ownership
services. These are all done in an effort to increase AOPA’s revenue. All profits from products and services are
reinvested by AOPA to their funding to ensure better services to members. One of the products that members can take
advantage of is the AOPA credit card. AOPA actually offers two credit cards: The AOPA Rewards Credit for personal
use and the AOPA Business Card. Both AOPA credit cards give cardholders an introductory 5% rebate on aviation gas.
How long this lasts, only the card issuer can tell. Both also offer an introductory APR of 0% on purchases and
rewards programs that cardholders can take advantage of. The latest rewards program that an AOPA credit
card holder can join is the WorldPoints® rewards program. This loyalty program allows owners to rack in
different rewards for every purchase they charge on their AOPA credit card. These rewards can range from cash to
gift cards to merchandise to travel and even access to VIP events.
The personal AOPA credit card is the AOPA Rewards Card. With two options to choose from, Visa and American Express,
this credit card earns the cardholder one point for every purchase dollar spent on retail. It offers no annual fee
and a 0% introductory APR for the first seven or ten months after your enrollment. However, don’t get your hopes
high yet, this introductory APR is determined on the basis of your behavior as a cardholder. So, any late payment
or over the credit limit will lose you this offer sooner than you expect. After this promo, a variable APR of
11.99% to 19.99% will be applied. Other fees of this AOPA credit card include an over-the-limit fee of $39, a late
fee of $15 or $29, and a balance transfer fee of 4%. Since this AOPA credit card is handled by Bank of America, all
transactions and complaints will also be directed to the bank.
For AOPA members who are fleet owners, the AOPA Business Card is recommended. This AOPA credit card is issued by
the Bank of America under MasterCard®. Like the personal AOPA credit card, it has no annual fee. It also offers a
0% introductory APR on purchases and lets the cardholder earn points for every dollar spent on retail. These points
can be accumulated for exclusive WorldPoints® and AccessTM rewards.
Applicants for the AOPA credit card will need a good credit rating to get approval for any of the cards. Though
AOPA offers excellent rewards, complaints on the card were made due to Bank of America’s knack for charging late
fees and sloppy customer service. Cardholders actually recommend paying AOPA credit card bills online to
make sure that no late charges will be imposed.
